Why Self-Care Is Important?

The need for Self-Care is important, for if we do not process our experiences, we can experience triggers, trauma, compassion fatigue, and burnout. While balancing work and family is important, self-care goes beyond that. It promotes self-nurturing, empowerment, self-efficacy, and resilience through cognitive, physical, psychological, and non-material aspects.

In my 20+ years of private practice, I’ve met diverse individuals who have experienced burnout, mental exhaustion, unrealistic work expectations, and employment concerns. The complexities of home life, such as relationships, parenting, and caring for loved ones, can also add to the fatigue and emotional, physical, and psychological exhaustion.  Self-care is crucial in our personal and professional lives to find joy, happiness, and fulfilment.

To start taking care of yourself, you need to recognise that something is not working and determine what you need to change.
